ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Urges Taliban Regime to Abandon Militant Mindset as Information Minister Attaullah Tarar called on the Afghan Taliban regime to adopt a responsible approach and pursue peace, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad, Tarar said Afghanistan’s situation was highly complex and required a lasting solution.

Tarar said Pakistan believed in peace, dialogue and peaceful coexistence and had sent several high-level delegations to Afghanistan to help address bilateral issues. He also referred to talks held in Istanbul and Doha as part of diplomatic efforts to resolve the Afghan issue.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained tense in recent years amid repeated terrorist attacks in Pakistan. Islamabad has alleged that militant groups operating from Afghanistan have been involved in attacks inside Pakistan and has repeatedly called on Kabul to prevent its territory from being used for such activities.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have also experienced border clashes in recent months amid security concerns. According to the information provided, the incidents have resulted in the deaths of civilians and security personnel in Pakistan.
Tarar said Afghanistan had significant potential to contribute to regional trade and connectivity. He noted that peace could help establish trade routes linking Central Asia with Pakistan, while Afghanistan could serve as a route for Central Asian countries to access Pakistan’s warm-water ports.

The minister also expressed concern over what he described as the presence of safe havens for terrorists and members of banned organisations in Afghanistan. He said Afghan citizens should have basic rights and opportunities to participate in the country’s economic development.
Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s support for negotiations aimed at finding an amicable solution to the Afghan issue. He said peaceful conditions would improve prospects for stability and development across the region.
However, he stressed that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be interpreted as weakness, saying that attempts to destabilise Pakistan would be responded to.
