India vs Pakistan live: Asian Games Cricket Final: India Beat Pakistan

NISHI-KUROGI: India beat Pakistan by 19 runs in a high-pressure Asian Games 2026 cricket final at Nishi-Kurogi Sports Park on Saturday, holding their nerve in the closing overs to claim the gold medal.

India posted 211-6 after opting to bat first, setting Pakistan a daunting 212-run target. Pakistan, despite a brilliant counterattack from Hasan Nawaz, finished on 192-6 in their allotted 20 overs.

The defeat denied Pakistan the gold medal after a chase that repeatedly threatened to collapse before Nawaz revived their hopes.

Abhishek, Tilak Power India Past 200

India made a measured start before Abhishek Sharma dramatically shifted the momentum. The left-hander smashed 61 from just 28 balls, including seven sixes and three fours, to put Pakistan’s attack under sustained pressure.

Although Pakistan struck back with wickets, India continued to find boundaries through the middle overs. Shreyas Iyer contributed 21 and Ishan Kishan made 20, while Shivam Dube struck a rapid 27.

Then, Tilak Varma delivered the decisive late acceleration, hammering an unbeaten 51 from only 22 balls, including four sixes.

As a result, India surged beyond 200 to finish on 211-6.

Pakistan’s Ahmed Daniyal and Arfat Minhas claimed two wickets apiece, while Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed took one each.

Pakistan Stumble in Run Chase

Pakistan’s pursuit of 212 immediately came under pressure.

Captain Sahibzada Farhan was the first to depart, caught off Washington Sundar for 10 in the fourth over with Pakistan on 31. Usman Khan followed soon afterwards for two, leaving Pakistan struggling to build momentum.

Maaz Sadaqat briefly steadied the innings with 23, but his dismissal further exposed Pakistan’s middle order. He struck an Axar Patel delivery towards midwicket, where Shivam Dube completed a difficult catch.

Saim Ayub then added 29 before India claimed another crucial wicket, leaving Pakistan increasingly dependent on Nawaz.

The early setbacks meant Pakistan had to maintain an aggressive scoring rate for much of the chase.

Hasan Nawaz Launches Stunning Fightback

However, Nawaz refused to surrender.

The right-hander attacked India’s bowlers with a succession of powerful strokes, combining clean hitting with calculated aggression to keep Pakistan within striking distance.

Nawaz smashed seven sixes and five fours during a superb 51-ball 96. His innings transformed what had appeared to be a one-sided chase into a tense finish.

Yet Pakistan’s lack of sustained partnerships ultimately proved costly.

With the required rate climbing rapidly, Pakistan lost another wicket and needed 44 runs from the final three overs at a demanding rate of 22 runs per over.

Nawaz eventually fell for 96, just four runs short of a memorable T20 century, effectively ending Pakistan’s hopes of completing the chase.

Pakistan closed their innings at 192-6, falling 19 runs short of India’s total.

India Hold Their Nerve

India’s bowlers kept their composure when the pressure peaked. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube claimed two wickets each, disrupting Pakistan’s chase at crucial moments.

Ultimately, India’s superior start with the bat and their ability to control the middle and closing stages proved decisive.

India’s 211-6 was enough to withstand Nawaz’s late assault, securing a 19-run victory and the Asian Games 2026 cricket gold medal.

Pakistan took silver after a spirited chase that fell short despite Nawaz’s outstanding 96.
