NAGOYA: Pakistan won bronze medals in both men’s hockey and men’s volleyball at the Asian Games after defeating South Korea and China respectively in their third-place matches.
In hockey, Pakistan edged past South Korea 5-3 in a thrilling third-place playoff to claim the bronze medal, taking Pakistan’s overall medal tally at the Asian Games to 10.
The match was tied 3-3 in the fourth quarter before Pakistan produced a late surge, scoring two more goals to seal the victory.
Rana Waheed scored twice for Pakistan, while Sufyan Khan, Abdul Rehman and Hannan Shahid contributed one goal each.
Pakistan beat China to win volleyball bronze
Pakistan also secured a bronze medal in the men’s volleyball competition after defeating China 3-0 in straight sets.
In the third-place match played in Nagoya, Pakistan dominated from the outset and won 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18.
The Pakistani side maintained its advantage throughout all three sets and kept the Chinese team under pressure to complete a convincing victory.
Pakistan had suffered a 3-0 defeat against Iran in the men’s volleyball semi-final. Iran won the match 25-13, 25-15 and 25-11 at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium to book its place in the final.
India beat Pakistan in Asian Games cricket final
Meanwhile, India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the Asian Games cricket final to win the gold medal, while Pakistan settled for silver.
India posted 211 runs in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first, setting Pakistan a target of 212 runs.
Pakistan scored 192 runs in reply and fell 19 runs short of the target.
