KP Speaker Sends Urgent Message to PM Shehbaz Over Terrorism Crisis — Peace Jirga Plan Put Back on the Table

Islamabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging effective implementation of the joint declaration issued by a peace jirga aimed at addressing the province’s worsening security situation and terrorism challenges.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has initiated consultations with relevant stakeholders to assess the prevailing law and order situation and develop a collective strategy to counter terrorism.

Swati said a peace jirga was held on November 12, 2025, with the participation of leaders and representatives from more than 30 political parties.

The participants discussed the security challenges confronting the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and exchanged views on measures needed to establish lasting peace and combat terrorism.

The participants prepared a mutually agreed joint declaration containing several proposals for achieving sustainable peace in the province. The declaration has already been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The speaker also informed the prime minister that the KP Assembly’s Special Security Committee had obtained detailed briefings from relevant departments and security institutions regarding the province’s law and order situation and terrorism-related challenges.

The committee was established to keep elected representatives informed about major security issues and develop practical recommendations based on ground realities.

According to the letter, the committee has prepared a comprehensive report after reviewing information and briefings provided by the relevant institutions. The report is intended to be presented to the federal government for counterterrorism measures under the National Action Plan.

Swati said the Special Security Committee would finalize its report after consultations with the office of the Commander XI Corps. The finalized document would then be presented before the KP Assembly for approval.
