Mixed Dance, Inappropriate Dresses Spark Outrage in Culture-Sensitive Hunza

Hunza Hotel Sealed After Viral Dance Party Sparks Outrage

HUNZA: Authorities in Hunza have sealed a private hotel in Aliabad after a video showing a mixed-gender dance gathering at the venue went viral on social media, triggering criticism over cultural values and public conduct.

The footage shows men and women dancing at an outdoor gathering against the backdrop of Hunza’s mountains. A DJ can also be seen playing music, while some female participants appear in outfits that have drawn criticism from social-media users.

The video quickly spread online and sparked a strong public reaction. Many users questioned whether such events were appropriate for a region known for its cultural traditions and tourism.

Following the backlash, Deputy Commissioner Hunza Fayyaz Ahmed Khan took notice of the gathering.

On his direction, the district administration sealed the hotel in Aliabad where the event was reportedly held, officials said.

Authorities have also initiated action against the hotel management and people allegedly involved in organising the gathering.

Officials have not publicly released full details about the individuals facing action or confirmed whether anyone was detained.

Meanwhile, claims circulating on social media have alleged that intoxicating substances were used during the gathering. Authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims, and they could not be independently verified.

The controversy has also triggered a broader debate over the balance between tourism, private entertainment and local cultural norms in Hunza.

Social-media users have questioned whether visitors and businesses should show greater sensitivity to the traditions and social values of the areas where they hold private events.

The administration, meanwhile, said it would not allow activities it considers immoral or involving the promotion of obscenity.

The incident has renewed scrutiny of activities at private hotels and tourist venues in Hunza, particularly as the region attracts increasing numbers of visitors.

The video itself does not establish whether any laws were violated. Any legal liability or further action would depend on the findings of the authorities’ inquiry.
