RAWALPINDI: Demonstrating unwavering vigilance at sea, Pakistan Navy counter-narcotics operations successfully seized a massive haul of illegal narcotics valued at approximately 96 million US dollars in the Arabian Sea.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the successful missions were conducted by the Pakistan Navy ship PNS Yarmook far off the coast during routine regional maritime deployment.
During these high-seas intelligence-based intercepts, naval personnel successfully intercepted two suspicious dhows.
Upon conducting thorough physical searches, specialized teams uncovered sophisticated hidden compartments built inside the vessels, recovering approximately 850 kilograms of methamphetamine (ice) and 2,000 kilograms of hashish.
The total estimated international market value of the confiscated narcotics stands at $96 million.
The seized contraband has been taken into official custody and will subsequently be handed over to relevant law enforcement agencies for legal disposal and further legal proceedings.
ISPR emphasized that these high-impact strikes reflect the Pakistan Navy’s continuous operational readiness, persistent maritime presence, and steadfast commitment to safeguarding regional maritime security while aggressively combatting illicit trafficking.
Strategic Importance of Maritime Security and Patrols
Safeguarding national maritime borders and international shipping lanes requires sustained operational capability, making Pakistan Navy counter-narcotics operations a critical component of regional stability.
Operating across vast and challenging oceanic expanses, the naval force regularly deploys frontline surface combatants, aviation assets, and specialized marine elements to monitor suspicious shipping routes and counter transnational organized crime.
Beyond routine patrols and defending territorial waters, these specialized maritime missions play a pivotal role in disrupting international narcotics networks that utilize the Arabian Sea as a primary transit corridor for illicit trade.
By actively neutralizing illegal smuggling syndicates, the naval force not only protects global trade routes from security threats but also curtails the financial lifelines of illicit cartels.
