PHC Seeks Sohail Afridi’s Reply Over Govt Helicopter Use

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has sought a response from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi over allegations that government resources were used for political activities and an opposition protest march.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice S.M. Attique Shah, heard a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz provincial lawmaker Qari Zahir.

The petitioner said the high court had barred the use of government resources for political activities in a key ruling issued in November 2025.

However, the petition alleged that Afridi travelled to Lakki Marwat in a government helicopter on Oct. 4, when the protest long march began.

The petitioner asked the court to take notice of the alleged use of state resources during the march and seek explanations from those responsible.

During Thursday’s hearing, the court issued a notice to the chief minister and sought his response to the allegations.

The case also referred to an earlier incident during a protest march towards Islamabad in October 2024, when Punjab police reportedly detained more than 10 government vehicles and 47 government officials during the tenure of then-KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
