Quetta Security Overhaul: Balochistan Fires 871 Cops, Approves 2,900 Smart Cameras

QUETTA: The government of Balochistan has approved the installation of nearly 3,000 state-of-the-art surveillance cameras and the expansion of quick-response police centers across Quetta, while simultaneously terminating 871 police personnel over absenteeism and negligence, officials announced.

The decisions were finalized during a high-level security and policing review chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The meeting focused on the Quetta Integrated Security Project, police modernization, and the overall law and order situation in the province.

Advanced Surveillance and Rapid Response

Under the newly approved Quetta Green Digital Corridor initiative, authorities will deploy 2,900 advanced surveillance cameras across the provincial capital. Consequently, the network aims to bolster urban monitoring, strengthen counter-terrorism operations, and guarantee swift response times from law enforcement agencies during security emergencies.

To further decrease emergency response times, the provincial government approved the establishment of additional Quick Response Force (QRF) centers throughout Quetta. Therefore, tactical units will be positioned to reach critical incidents within minutes of a security breach or crisis.

Police Modernization and Equipment Overhaul

Alongside infrastructure expansion, officials briefed the Chief Minister on police modernization initiatives. Under these plans, officers and frontline personnel will receive advanced tactical training, essential combat equipment, and upgraded logistical support to counter evolving security threats effectively.

“If we deploy police forces to fight terrorism, we must equip them with every necessary tool and full institutional backing,” stated Chief Minister Bugti, reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in establishing lasting peace across the province.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Affairs and the Inspector General of Balochistan Police presented a comprehensive briefing detailing ongoing security operations and provincial law enforcement strategy.

Discipline, Accountability, and Resource Reallocation

In a bid to enforce institutional accountability, provincial authorities confirmed the dismissal of 871 police personnel found guilty of unauthorized absence and professional negligence. Additionally, authorities recalled 1,005 police personnel previously assigned to VIP protection detail and reassigned them back to core operational police duties.

Beyond security reforms, Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the necessity of curbing non-developmental government expenditures. As a result, the administration plans to redirect saved public funds directly toward high-impact public welfare initiatives.

Provincial authorities maintained that combining digital surveillance, enhanced operational capacity, and strict institutional accountability will significantly reinforce law and order while safeguarding citizens across Quetta and Balochistan.
