Field Marshal Asim Munir Lands in Tehran for High-Level Talks

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has arrived in Tehran for an official visit, the military’s media wing said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Munir reached the Iranian capital for meetings with senior Iranian officials.

The visit comes amid reports of a four-country meeting in Iran concerning the proposed Mecca Defence Alliance, with Asim Munir’s participation being viewed in the context of regional defence cooperation and security consultations.

The meeting could provide an opportunity for participating countries to discuss regional security challenges, strengthen defence ties and explore avenues for cooperation aimed at promoting peace and stability.

Pakistan’s participation would also highlight its regional diplomatic and defence engagements. The discussions and their outcomes could help shape future cooperation and coordination among the participating countries.

This is the Chief Defence Forces’ second visit to Tehran in a week. He visited the Iranian capital on October 20, where he held meetings with senior Iranian officials.

The latest visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran. The United States and Iran have remained locked in conflict since February, while tensions have continued around the Strait of Hormuz.
