ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Shaukat Yousafzai have distanced themselves from overseas YouTubers, while the party’s official social media account has continued sharing content attributed to some of the same online personalities, raising questions about PTI’s social media policy.
According to the material cited in the report, PTI’s official account on X shared videos or comments from these YouTubers on October 12, 14 and 17.
The apparent contrast between the leaders’ statements and the party account’s online activity has prompted questions about who shapes PTI’s social media narrative and how the party manages its relationship with overseas commentators.
The issue has also sparked political debate over whether the party’s public position on these personalities aligns with its social media activity.
However, screenshots of posts and shared videos, by themselves, do not establish that the YouTubers control PTI’s social media strategy or that any foreign family or intelligence agency directs the party’s political messaging.
Speculation linking PTI’s political narrative to the Goldsmith family, British intelligence agency MI6 or the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) remains unsubstantiated by the evidence described in the report.
PTI’s leadership should clarify its social media policy and explain the nature of its relationship with the overseas YouTubers to address questions arising from the apparent discrepancy.
The central question remains whether the party’s official social media activity reflects a coordinated communications strategy or simply the sharing of content from online commentators.
