Overview of Earthquakes in Pakistan in 2026
Pakistan’s geographical placement along the active tectonic boundary where the Indian and Eurasian plates collide continues to make it highly vulnerable to seismic events.
The year 2026 has witnessed recurring moderate-to-strong activity managed by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Throughout 2026, severe and moderate earthquakes in Pakistan in 2026 have primarily originated from the deep tectonic structures of the Hindu Kush range in neighboring Afghanistan, frequently sending tremors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad.
Notable events include a 5.6 magnitude quake in February recorded at a depth of 114 km and a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in late June that jolted major northern areas.
Additionally, localized fault lines generated moderate quakes in Balochistan such as a 5.7 magnitude event near Khuzdar in mid-October—and a 4.4 magnitude tremor recorded in Sindh.
Authorities such as the NDMA have maintained active monitoring systems to ensure disaster readiness and promote modern earthquake-resistant structural standards across vulnerable regions.
