LONDON: A series of bomb threats across Europe disrupted air travel on Thursday, affecting at least 12 flights and forcing several aircraft to divert or undergo security checks. Two major UK airports, Heathrow and Birmingham, also received bomb threats, which authorities later deemed not credible.
Bomb Threats Disrupt Air Travel Across Europe
According to reports, several flights operating to and from European destinations faced security alerts, including services linked to Copenhagen, Helsinki, Madrid, Milan and Warsaw.
British airline easyJet confirmed that two of its flights departing from Newcastle and Glasgow were met by police upon landing in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
The airline said the security checks were carried out as a precaution following a security-related alert. However, passengers were able to disembark from both aircraft as normal.
In a separate incident, a flight travelling from Dublin Airport in Ireland to Rome was diverted to a French military airfield following a security alert. The aircraft underwent a thorough search, but authorities found no suspicious or dangerous items.
Meanwhile, despite receiving bomb threats, Heathrow and Birmingham airports continued their operations without major disruption after authorities assessed the warnings as non-credible.
Following the incidents, security measures were tightened at several airports across Europe amid heightened concerns over aviation safety.
