Foreign Returnee Arrested for Bank Robbery in Lahore

Lahore: A Foreign Returnee was arrested for bank robbery in Lahore.

In a bizarre and high-profile bank heist in the South Cantonment area near Bhatta Chowk, a masked armed robber looted Rs 700,000 from a cash counter while fluent in English throughout the operation.

CCTV footage of the incident surfaced, showing the suspect arriving in a luxury car and taking two security guards hostage.

Under the threat of a weapon, the robber forced a guard to help unload a suitcase from his vehicle before disarming the other guard at gunpoint.

He then escorted a hostage to the cash counter to execute the robbery.

According to DIG Operations Kamran Faisal, the entire heist lasted 9 minutes, with the emergency call received at 9:19 AM, and was successfully traced using closed-circuit footage.

Police swiftly tracked down and arrested the suspect, identified as Subhan, from a private housing society.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had recently returned from the UK on September 16 with 1,200 pounds.

After exhausting his funds and getting into a domestic dispute with his family, he planned the robbery after watching a Netflix series.

The suspect had intended to flee to Islamabad by parking his car in an under-construction house and switching vehicles.

He lived alone in Lahore while his family resides in the UK, having purchased the weapon upon arriving in Pakistan in April.

This case of a foreign returnee arrested for bank robbery in Lahore highlights unusual motives behind modern street crimes.

Rising Concerns Over Robbery Incidents in Punjab

The shocking details of this case bring renewed attention to the broader issue of escalating robbery incidents across Punjab. Street crime, armed robberies, and heists have become a persistent challenge for law enforcement agencies in major urban centers like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.

Despite regular police crackdowns, the proliferation of illegal weapons and financial pressures continue to drive individuals toward desperate criminal acts.

Security experts emphasize that tackling the surge in robbery incidents in Punjab requires a dual approach: proactive intelligence-based policing and strict oversight on the illegal arms trade.
