PESHAWAR: Bannu Police have received modern bulletproof vehicles provided by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, as the provincial security apparatus moves to strengthen its counterterrorism capabilities following the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The arrival of the vehicles at Bannu Police Lines comes amid longstanding concerns over the shortage of modern equipment and operational resources available to police personnel fighting terrorism in the province.

The development has also renewed questions about police preparedness during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) more than 13 years in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police have repeatedly raised concerns about inadequate facilities and resources.

Despite the persistent security challenges, the provision of modern equipment to strengthen the force has remained a key concern for law enforcement personnel tasked with confronting militant threats.

According to police officials, the newly supplied bulletproof vehicles will provide better protection to personnel during counterterrorism operations and improve the force’s ability to respond to security threats.

The vehicles are expected to enhance Bannu Police’s operational capacity as the district and other parts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to face security challenges.

Following the imposition of governor’s rule, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared the restoration of law and order their top priority.

They pledged to strengthen the capabilities of the army, police and other security institutions to improve the fight against terrorism.

The provision of bulletproof vehicles to Bannu Police is part of efforts to improve officers’ protection and equip the force to respond more effectively to militant threats.

However, assessing the extent of any neglect during the PTI’s tenure would require a review of police funding, equipment procurement and documented requests for additional resources.
