PESHAWAR: In a major stride toward healthcare reform, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has successfully reactivated its fleet of non-functional Mobile Drug Laboratories, introducing advanced on-site pharmaceutical testing across the province.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revitalizes Healthcare Through Mobile Laboratories
Operating under the supervision of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Nigar Johar, the Directorate General of Drug Control and Pharmacy Services has brought previously idle mobile laboratory units back into active service through targeted administrative streamlining. These specialized vehicles, which had remained non-operational under previous administrations, are now fully deployed to serve various divisions throughout the province.
The upgraded mobile units are equipped with state-of-the-art Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy technologies. This modern infrastructure empowers Drug Inspectors to conduct rapid, preliminary on-site analysis of medicine quality, ensuring the swift identification of suspected counterfeit and substandard pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, the initiative optimizes the collection and referral of samples for comprehensive laboratory verification when necessary.
By transforming dormant public resources into an efficient monitoring asset, the provincial government has taken a decisive step toward safeguarding public health, curbing spurious drugs, and establishing rigorous quality standards across the healthcare supply chain.
