LONDON/NEW YORK: Pakistani actress Meera has reportedly been sent back to the United States after Canadian immigration authorities denied her entry following questioning at the Canada–US border near Niagara, according to a statement she gave to Pakistani Media House.
Meera, whose real name is Syeda Irtiza Rubab, was travelling from New York to Canada to attend a show when immigration officials stopped her for several hours of questioning before directing her back to the United States. The specific reason for the immigration decision has not been disclosed publicly.
Meera Deported from Canada: Actress Says Reasons Remain Unclear
Speaking to Pakistani Media House, Meera said she was still trying to determine why Canadian authorities had refused her entry. She stated that officials had asked her basic questions and said she suspected a complaint might have contributed to the incident. However, no evidence has been presented to establish that a complaint was responsible for the decision.
The latest development has renewed attention on the actress’s previous immigration difficulties, particularly her reported problems entering the United Kingdom.
Previous Immigration Issues in the United Kingdom
Meera has previously faced immigration restrictions in Britain after being questioned by officials at Heathrow Airport. According to documents cited in earlier media reports, she was refused entry and subsequently faced a 10-year entry ban, which has since expired.
Her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, previously attributed the British immigration incident to a misunderstanding during questioning, claiming that Meera had difficulty understanding questions asked in English.
Despite the expiry of the reported ban, the actress continued to experience difficulties obtaining a UK visa. A later application was reportedly refused after incorrect information was allegedly submitted by her travel agent, prompting concerns from British authorities about misrepresentation.
In July 2025, Meera appealed publicly to the British government for permission to visit her sister in London, who was undergoing cancer treatment. She said she had been unable to visit her family for several years because of the ongoing visa difficulties.
Meera’s Latest Border Encounter Raises Questions
The actress, who holds a US Green Card, has frequently travelled to the United States for personal and professional commitments. Her latest encounter with Canadian immigration officials has once again drawn attention to the challenges she has faced while travelling internationally.
