Midnight Fuel Price Shake-Up: Petrol Falls, Diesel Rises—What Will You Pay Today?

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reduced petrol prices by Rs2.93 per litre while increasing high-speed diesel prices by 61 paisa, introducing a mixed adjustment in fuel costs for October 13, 2026.

Following the revision, petrol costs Rs395.37 per litre, down from Rs398.30. High-speed diesel has risen to Rs396.85 per litre from Rs396.24. The revised prices took effect after midnight and apply for the announced twenty-four-hour period.

The petrol reduction provides some relief to motorists purchasing fuel during the latest pricing period. However, the decrease remains relatively small compared with the overall retail price.

Based on the announced adjustment, buying ten litres of petrol now costs Rs3,953.70, compared with Rs3,983 previously. This represents a saving of Rs29.30.

For a twenty-litre purchase, the saving reaches Rs58.60, while motorists buying fifty litres would pay Rs146.50 less. These calculations illustrate the direct effect of the reduction without assuming any change in household travel patterns.

High-speed diesel moved in the opposite direction, with the new price reaching Rs396.85 per litre. Reports citing the notification put the increase at 61 paisa.

At the revised rate, purchasing ten litres costs Rs3,968.50, an increase of Rs6.10. A fifty-litre purchase costs Rs30.50 more than before.

The adjustment therefore produces different outcomes for consumers depending on which fuel they purchase. Petrol buyers receive a modest saving, while diesel buyers face a slightly higher bill.

The announcement does not itself establish changes in transport fares or the prices of other goods. Any such effects would require separate confirmation.

New Rates Apply for October 13

The Ministry of Energy issued the revised prices determined by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. The announcement specifies October 13 as the applicable date.

The preceding rates covered October 10 through October 12, when petrol stood at Rs398.30 and diesel at Rs396.24 per litre. Those figures provide the comparison for the latest adjustment.

Although the Express report describes a petrol increase in its headline, its listed prices show a decrease. Moving from Rs398.30 to Rs395.37 mathematically represents a reduction of Rs2.93.
