Talal Chaudhry Blames KP Government for Deadlock

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry has claimed that negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) failed after the party’s negotiating team became disappointed with the response from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on the issue of terrorism.

The talks reached an impasse because the KP government failed to provide assurances regarding cooperation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

He said that counterterrorism efforts require cooperation between the federal and provincial governments.

Chaudhry said terrorism was one of the central issues that contributed to the failure of the negotiations. He alleged that the KP government was unwilling to provide the necessary cooperation for the implementation of the National Action Plan.

The PML-N leader stressed that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign cannot succeed without coordinated efforts between the relevant institutions and provincial administrations.

His remarks come amid continued political differences between the federal government and PTI over security, governance and political matters.

Talal Chaudhry further alleged that the KP government did not want to implement the National Action Plan in the fight against terrorism. He called for greater cooperation and emphasized the importance of implementing agreed national security measures.

The National Action Plan was introduced to strengthen Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and extremism through coordinated measures involving federal and provincial authorities.

Chaudhry described the fight against terrorism as a broader struggle for Pakistan’s stability rather than an issue limited to any particular political party or government.

He urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to cooperate in counterterrorism efforts, arguing that political differences should not stand in the way of national security.

The PML-N leader’s comments highlight the continuing political divide over how terrorism should be addressed, particularly in areas facing persistent security challenges.

Political Talks Remain Under Pressure

The latest statements add another layer to the already strained political environment between the government and PTI. While negotiations have previously been viewed as a possible avenue for reducing political tensions, disagreements over security and governance have continued to complicate efforts toward consensus.

Chaudhry’s remarks suggest that the government considers provincial cooperation on counterterrorism a crucial component of any broader political understanding.
