Peshawar Traders Erupt in Protest, Take Aim at KP Government Over Long March and Dharna Politics

PESHAWAR: The traders in Peshawar staged a protest against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, expressing serious concern over what they described as the provincial administration’s continued focus on protest politics instead of addressing public and economic issues.

The traders gathered at Provincial Assembly Chowk, where they chanted slogans against the government and voiced concerns over the difficult environment facing businesses across the province.

Trader representatives said the provincial government should concentrate on resolving public problems rather than prioritising long marches and sit-ins.

The protesting traders said business activities in the province were already facing difficulties, while employment opportunities were becoming increasingly limited.

They argued that continued political uncertainty could further affect markets and discourage economic activity.

According to the traders, the government should review its priorities and take practical measures to support businesses, markets and industries.

They maintained that a stronger business environment was essential for creating employment opportunities and strengthening the provincial economy.

The traders also criticised the provincial government’s political approach, arguing that residents were already facing multiple administrative and economic challenges.

They called on the government to shift its attention towards issues directly affecting ordinary citizens and the business community.

The protesters said the government should engage traders and other stakeholders before taking decisions that could affect commercial activity.

Political Tension Raises Business Concerns

The traders said repeated political activities and demonstrations could have a direct impact on businesses, particularly in major commercial centres such as Peshawar.

They stressed that traders needed continuity and stability to operate effectively.

The protesters urged the provincial government to create a favourable environment for markets and industries, improve economic conditions and work towards generating new employment opportunities.

The traders said they wanted the government to prioritise public welfare, economic stability and business development.
