LONDON: England has announced its 16-player squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series set to take place in Pakistan.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been rested under workload management following a busy season, while senior batter Jos Buttler misses out due to injury.
The squad features maiden call-ups for Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, and James Coles. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid returns after recovering from a hand injury, alongside all-rounder Sam Curran, who also returns from injury.
Mason Crane returns to the England side after eight years, having last represented the country in the fifth Ashes Test against Australia in Sydney in 2018, in addition to playing two T20 Internationals.
According to England selector Marcus Trescothick/North, the tri-series in Pakistan provides an important opportunity to test the ODI squad against strong opponents in varied conditions.
Harry Brook will captain England in the tri-series. The matches will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore, with the final scheduled for October 31 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
The complete England squad includes Harry Brook (captain), Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox, Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, James Coles, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, and Josh Tongue.
England in ODIs in the Past Five Years
Over the past five years, England’s performance in ODI cricket has experienced notable fluctuations.
Following their 2019 World Cup victory, the team shifted its focus toward white-ball experimentation, which impacted their previously dominant consistency.
While integrating younger players and rebuilding for future global tournaments resulted in some inconsistent series results and losses, the management’s long-term vision has remained focused on developing a deep, versatile pool of talent capable of adapting to diverse international conditions.
