DUBAI: ICC introduces new set of rules for cricket across all formats.
According to the sources, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a comprehensive set of updates to the ICC playing conditions across all international formats.
Set to come into effect for all series starting on or after October 1, these newly revised ICC playing conditions are designed to improve the overall pace of the game, resolve long-standing regulatory ambiguities, and modernize standards for international competition.
A vital component of this regulatory evolution involves the governing body itself.
The ICC Board has officially stepped in to determine and finalize these new rules for cricket, ensuring that modern regulations match the competitive demands of elite play while protecting the long-term integrity of the sport.
Under the updated guidelines, strict measures have been established to penalize time-wasting behaviors from batters, introducing a 5-run penalty awarded to the fielding side upon a batter’s third recorded violation.
Furthermore, precise specifications regarding the size and weight of cricket balls have been distinctly categorized for men’s, women’s, and junior levels to maintain fair play.
To address field uncertainties, the governing body has removed ambiguity surrounding overthrows—explicitly defining any throw towards the stumps to stop runs or attempt a run-out as an overthrow, while requiring complete control of the ball by a fielder for a valid run-out or stumping.
In Test cricket, an experimental trial now permits the use of pink balls in daytime Tests to counter lost time from poor lighting, provided both teams agree prior to the match.
Additionally, T20 Internationals will now feature a fixed 15-minute innings interval.
