RIYADH: The Saudi-led coalition said Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militia launched a drone attack targeting the Taiba electricity distribution station in the holy city of Madinah.
According to a statement issued by Coalition Forces Spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki, the attack took place at 5:11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The coalition said the strike temporarily disabled one power transformer, resulting in the shutdown of several connected units. However, the spokesman said the wider electricity network and overall power transmission system were not affected.
Power Station Serves Key Civilian Infrastructure
The coalition said the targeted electricity distribution station supplies power to key civilian infrastructure, including Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (The Prophet’s Mosque) in Madinah.
According to the statement, forensic evidence and analysis of the wreckage indicated that the attack was part of a planned attempt to target the critical utility facility.
Saudi-led coalition Condemns Attack
Major General Al-Maliki condemned the reported attack as a deliberate provocation, saying such actions violate the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world.
