Asian Games 2026: Ghulam Mustafa Bashir Wins Bronze for Pakistan in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol

AICHI: Pakistani Olympic shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir delivered an exceptional performance on Thursday to claim a bronze medal in the men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol event at the 2026 Asian Games. The podium finish elevated Pakistan’s overall medal count at the Games to six.

Bashir, a three-time Olympian and 2022 ISSF World Championship bronze medalist, demonstrated remarkable resilience throughout the competition. Entering the second day of qualifications in eighth position, he climbed two spots to finish sixth, securing a coveted entry into the eight-man medal round.

Competing at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, Bashir maintained steady precision through successive elimination rounds. He ultimately claimed third place with 22 hits, holding off Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy, who was eliminated in fourth place with 20 hits.

South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok captured the gold medal, prevailing in a tie-breaker against China’s Su Lianbofan after both athletes finished tied at 32 hits—a score that set both an Asian Games record and an Asian record. Su took home the silver medal.

Bashir’s achievement marks another significant milestone in his international shooting career and adds to Pakistan’s growing success at the 2026 Asian Games.
