Saudi-Led Coalition Claims Major Strike on Houthi Missile Sites in Yemen

RIYADH: The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen has announced that it destroyed a ballistic missile launch platform in the capital, Sanaa, as well as a missile storage facility located inside a mountainous site in Saada, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The announcement represents another reported military operation targeting ballistic missile infrastructure in areas controlled by the Houthi movement, amid continued tensions surrounding Yemen’s long-running conflict.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, coalition forces targeted and destroyed a platform used to launch ballistic missiles in Sanaa.

The Yemeni capital has remained under Houthi control since 2014, when the movement seized large parts of the country and eventually took control of the capital. Sanaa has since remained one of the most important centers of Houthi political and military activity.

The coalition did not provide further details in the initial announcement regarding the exact location of the launch platform or the circumstances surrounding the strike.

The coalition also said it destroyed a ballistic missile storage facility located within a mountainous site in Saada, a northern Yemeni province that has long been considered a major stronghold of the Houthis.

According to the Saudi account, the facility contained 20 ballistic missiles. The reported discovery and destruction of such a large stockpile could represent a significant strike against the group’s missile capabilities if independently confirmed.

The coalition did not immediately provide additional information about the type of missiles involved or whether the operation resulted in casualties.

Yemen Conflict Remains a Major Regional Flashpoint

Yemen has remained at the center of a prolonged conflict involving the Houthis and forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognized government, with regional powers becoming directly involved in the fighting.

The Saudi-led coalition has previously carried out military operations against Houthi military infrastructure, citing threats posed by missile and drone capabilities.

The latest claims come against the backdrop of continued regional security concerns involving Yemen and the wider Middle East.
