Mysterious Cash on Delivery Parcel Leaves Women in Complete Shock

ISLAMABAD: A Mystry parcel leaves Indian women in a complete shock.

According to the report of Indian media,  a mysterious cash-on-delivery parcel fraud in India has sparked a fresh debate on social media after a woman reportedly received an unsolicited package containing a torn, used garment despite never placing an order.

According to Indian woman Kiran Manral, the parcel carried her correct name, phone number and residential address. She said she had not ordered any product and had no information about the sender.

In her absence, her son accepted the parcel and paid the cash-on-delivery amount.
However, after opening the package, the family reportedly found what appeared to be a torn and previously used kurta inside.

Manral described the incident as a possible fraud and questioned how her personal information had reached an unknown sender.

She also raised concerns about how many other people could potentially have been targeted through similar tactics.

The delivery company, Delhivery, reportedly apologised after receiving the complaint and said the matter would be referred to the relevant team for investigation.

Parcel Crimes in India: Growing Concerns Over Unsolicited Deliveries

Mysterious cash-on-delivery parcel fraud in India highlights a broader concern surrounding unsolicited deliveries, misuse of personal information and deceptive cash-on-delivery schemes.

Parcel-related fraud can take several forms, including fake orders, bogus delivery calls, impersonation of courier companies, payment demands for items never purchased and packages containing products that differ substantially from what was allegedly ordered.

One major concern is the availability of personal information such as names, phone numbers and residential addresses.

Such information can potentially be obtained through data breaches, leaked databases, online purchases, social-media activity, fraudulent forms or other undisclosed sources.

However, the precise source of personal information in any individual case requires investigation and should not be assumed without evidence.

Consumers are generally advised to verify unexpected deliveries before making payments, particularly when they have not placed an order.

They should also retain the packaging, delivery details, transaction information and communications with the courier company if they suspect fraud.

Courier companies and online marketplaces also face challenges in preventing fraudulent shipments while handling millions of legitimate deliveries.

Effective verification mechanisms, stronger data protection practices and accessible complaint-resolution systems can help reduce the risk.
