KARACHI: Two sisters were allegedly shot dead by their brother over their use of TikTok in Karachi, while a security guard was killed and two labourers injured in a separate armed attack on an under-construction building, police said.
The two young women were killed inside their home in New Rehmanabad on Wednesday, within the jurisdiction of Shah Faisal Colony police station.
According to police, the victims were identified as Sabiha, 25, and Hira, 20. Their brother, identified as Rehan, allegedly opened fire on them, killing both at the scene.
Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari told the media that preliminary investigations suggested the suspect had objected to his sisters using TikTok. This was believed to be a possible motive for the double killing, he said.
The suspect fled after the incident, and police were making efforts to arrest him.
According to the police officer, the suspect also has a criminal record and has previously been arrested and jailed in connection with several cases.
The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
Guard Killed in Armed Attack on Garden Building
In a separate incident, a security guard was killed and two labourers injured when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on an under-construction building in Karachi’s Garden area.
Police said the attackers fired indiscriminately at the under-construction Jumani Square near Ali Bhai Auditorium on Nishtar Road, leaving three people seriously injured.
The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi, where 30-year-old Aslam, the building’s security guard, succumbed to his injuries.
The two injured labourers were identified as Shahid Ali, 25, and Shakir Ali, 28.
Police said the attack appeared to be linked to extortion, although further investigation was required to establish the motive and identify those responsible.
