Makkah Defence Alliance Rattles India, Israel: Turkiye FM

ISTANBUL: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said India’s campaign against the Makkah Alliance reflects New Delhi’s concerns over the growing strategic cooperation among Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, warning that attempts to discredit the emerging partnership will not stop its progress.

In an interview with Turkish television channel NTV, Fidan said media campaigns and disinformation targeting the alliance demonstrated how significant the initiative had become, even though it was signed only three months ago.

“When we look at the countries you mentioned, Israel, India, Greece, etc., we realise how significant and impactful a move the Makkah Alliance really is,” Fidan said.

He dismissed attempts to undermine the alliance through negative media coverage and disinformation, saying such campaigns were effectively an effort to derail the initiative before it could fully take shape.

“This is clearly an attempt to end something before it even starts,” he said.

Fidan added that criticism of the alliance indirectly reflected the threat perceptions of countries concerned about the emerging strategic platform.

“We see these developments and take note of them, but they are really not things to be taken seriously,” he said.

The Turkish foreign minister expressed confidence that the alliance would gain significance despite attempts to discredit it.

“You will see that the Makkah Alliance will be a game-changing platform, God willing,” he added.

Fidan’s remarks came amid growing attention to strategic cooperation among Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, with India’s media campaign against the emerging alliance becoming a subject of discussion.

The statement signals Ankara’s determination to push ahead with the initiative despite criticism and disinformation campaigns, while underscoring the strategic significance it attaches to closer cooperation among the three countries.
