NAB Files Expose Fazlur Rehman’s Secret Proxy Empire of Illegal Land

ISLAMABAD: Leaked financial investigation files linked to Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have exposed a multi-million-dollar land empire tied to powerful right-wing cleric Maulana Fazlur Rehman, detailing thousands of acres of prime real estate, luxury mansions, and cheap state-land giveaways across Pakistan and Dubai.

The secret dossier cataloged at least 3,640 kanals of direct land holdings and high-end urban properties valued conservatively at PKR 686 million ($2.45 million). Among the highlights is a massive 100-kanal fortified luxury estate in Himmat Village alone, valued at PKR 300 million.

Beyond direct holdings, investigators uncovered an additional 17,192 kanals of land allegedly stashed under a network of political proxy owners and frontmen acting on the cleric’s behalf.

The files point to severe abuse of public office. In 2006, authorities cleared questionable allocations totaling 5,200 kanals of state land. Five years later, in 2011, officials handed over 600 kanals of protected Forest Department land for a nominal PKR 375 per kanal—a deep discount from its market valuation of PKR 45,000 per kanal. Official records indicate government bodies later launched cancellation proceedings to recover the stolen public property.

These damning revelations place the long-standing political kingmaker under unprecedented pressure to produce a legal paper trail for his global wealth, account for suspicious state allocations, and clarify his financial links to the named frontmen.
