Complaint Lodged with FBR Alleging Tax Evasion Against Fazlur Rehman's Circle

ISLAMABAD: A complaint has been lodged with FBR alleging tax evasion against Fazal Ur Rehman’s circle.

According to the details,  FBR Received Complaint Seeking Inquiry into Alleged Tax Evasion by Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Family and Inner Circle

A formal complaint has been submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) demanding an inquiry into alleged tax evasion, non-disclosure of assets, and financial irregularities involving family members and close political associates of JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The complaint names key figures including Senator Kamran Murtaza, Lutf-ur-Rehman, Zia-ur-Rehman, Asad Mahmood, and Abrar Ahmed Khan.

It urges revenue authorities to conduct a comprehensive audit of their declared assets, bank transactions, and income sources to identify potential tax violations.

Key aspects of the requested investigation:

  • Kamran Murtaza: Scrutiny requested regarding financial transactions across multiple local and foreign currency bank accounts.
  • Lutf-ur-Rehman & Zia-ur-Rehman: Inspection of accounts across various banks and business activities concerning unexplained funds.
  • Asad Mahmood & Abrar Ahmed Khan: Examination of banking operations, travel and tours enterprise operations, and affiliated commercial endeavors.
  • Associated Entities: Financial audits requested for linked charitable, educational, and commercial organizations.

The complainant has urged the FBR to carry out an impartial investigation by comparing the income tax returns of the named individuals against their actual asset holdings and financial transactions.

Corruption and Assets Allegations

Accusations regarding assets beyond known sources and financial irregularities have long shadowed mainstream political figures in Pakistan, and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is no exception.

Over the years, political opponents and institutional bodies have repeatedly questioned the accumulation of wealth and properties linked to his inner circle.

While these recurring probes—ranging from anti-corruption inquiries to recent tax evasion complaints lodged with revenue authorities—frequently fuel intense media scrutiny and public debate, critics and supporters remain deeply polarized.

Supporters consistently dismiss these allegations as politically motivated victimisation designed to pressurize opposition narratives, whereas detractors argue that strict accountability and transparency must apply universally to all public figures.

Ultimately, under legal and democratic norms, these claims remain allegations until concrete financial wrongdoing is formally established and proven through impartial state audits and judicial proceedings.
