Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has sharply criticised Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas, questioning their efforts for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and making allegations about their political relationships.
Saif accused Achakzai of failing to support the jailed former prime minister despite, according to him, receiving Khan’s backing for the opposition leader’s position.
He also alleged that Abbas maintained direct contacts with influential establishment figures for purposes unrelated to securing Khan’s release.
Saif alleged that Achakzai had secured an electoral seat he had lost with assistance from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
However, he claimed, Achakzai was unwilling to sit with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss matters concerning the PTI founder.
The former adviser argued that Achakzai owed his position as opposition leader to Khan’s support but was not doing enough for him.
His criticism centred on what he described as a gap between the political backing Achakzai received and his willingness to engage the government over Khan’s situation.
The supplied statement did not include evidence supporting the allegation about Achakzai’s electoral seat.
Turning to Raja Nasir Abbas, Saif claimed that the opposition figure was in direct contact with important individuals within the establishment.
He alleged that these communications were not intended to obtain Khan’s release.
However, the supplied remarks did not identify the individuals concerned, explain the nature of the alleged discussions or provide supporting documentation.
The purpose of any such contacts therefore remains unverified. Saif’s comments represent his allegations and should not be treated as an established account of Abbas’s activities or intentions.
Wider Debate Over Opposition Strategy
The criticism comes amid public debate about the opposition’s approach to negotiations and its efforts concerning Khan.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar previously said Khan had selected Achakzai and Abbas for leadership roles and directed the party to proceed under their guidance.
