WASHINGTON: Global financial and energy markets experienced a significant shift in the wake of the United States elections, with crude oil prices recording a sharp decline of up to 8%.
Global Crude Oil Prices Plunge Up to 8%
Global oil prices recorded a significant decline, with US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude falling by more than 7% to settle at $89 per barrel. Meanwhile, international benchmark Brent crude dropped 8% to $96 per barrel, while the UAE’s Murban crude also witnessed a decline, falling to $101 per barrel. The sharp decrease reflects a broad downward movement across major global oil benchmarks.
Implications for Global Markets and Energy Consumers
The steep drop in crude prices highlights shifting investor sentiment and ongoing economic uncertainties as global markets react to the new political landscape in the United States.
For energy-importing nations like Pakistan, the sustained downward trend in international oil prices could provide crucial relief by potentially lowering the national import bill and easing domestic petroleum product prices.
