ISLAMABAD: Minister of State Talal Chaudhry on Governor’s Rule in KP has clarified that the current administrative arrangement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is temporary and was not established to distribute political power among parties. He said the primary objective of imposing Governor’s Rule is to improve law and order and take effective action against terrorism.
Speaking about the province’s political situation, Chaudhry said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was treating the provincial governance setup as “spoils of war.” He added that following the removal of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, demands for political representation and power-sharing had emerged.
The minister emphasised that the current administration was not formed to accommodate political interests or distribute positions among political figures.

Chaudhry also remarked that religious leaders who wear turbans and maintain beards carry additional responsibilities and should exercise caution in their statements and conduct.
Addressing concerns over the province’s mineral resources, he said there was no need to impose an emergency to facilitate mineral extraction in KP. He added that the government was open to criticism but stressed that political leaders should avoid statements or actions that could be perceived as supporting terrorists.
The state minister maintained that Pakistan’s institutions were capable of dealing with security threats and reiterated that Governor’s Rule was not intended to be a permanent arrangement.
He said the government would make every effort to restore law and order, counter terrorism, and normalise the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that restoring the province’s regular political system remained a priority.
