Under the revised schedule, individuals and other taxpayers who were required to file their income tax returns by September 30 will now have until October 15, 2026 to complete the process.

The FBR had previously set September 30 as the deadline for filing tax returns for Tax Year 2026.

The extension comes after the tax collection authority warned taxpayers that failure to file returns on time could result in penalties, additional tax liabilities and possible legal action.

According to sources cited in the information provided, the penalty for individuals filing their returns after the deadline could increase from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 25,000.

For an Association of Persons (AOP), the late-filing penalty is expected to rise from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000, while companies could face penalties of up to Rs. 100,000, compared with the existing Rs. 20,000.

FBR Urges Taxpayers to Provide Accurate Information

The FBR has also warned taxpayers against concealing assets or providing inaccurate information in their tax returns.

According to the tax authority, its modern data systems continuously receive information regarding taxpayers’ income, assets and financial transactions. The FBR has therefore urged taxpayers to provide complete and accurate information when filing their returns.
