PM Shehbaz Announces Major Relief Package for Families of 3 Sailors Killed in Somalia

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced financial assistance of Rs12.5 million per family for the families of three Pakistanis who were killed in Somalia, along with free education and healthcare for their children and a house for each bereaved family.

The prime minister expressed his condolences to the families of the Pakistani nationals killed during an operation to recover the vessel Honour 25, which had reportedly been held hostage in Somalia for around five months. He assured the families that the government would provide all possible support during the difficult period.

Rs12.5 Million Financial Assistance for Each Family

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs12.5 million in financial assistance for each of the three bereaved families.

He also announced that the children of the deceased would receive free education and healthcare facilities, while each family would be provided with a house as part of the government’s relief measures.

PM Shehbaz Contacts Family of Deceased Pakistani

The prime minister spoke by telephone with Azhan Kashif, son of Pakistani national Kashif Umar, and expressed his heartfelt condolences over his father’s death.

Shehbaz Sharif said the government shared the grief of the bereaved families and prayed for the deceased to be granted a high place in paradise and for their families to be given strength to bear the loss.

Efforts Underway to Bring Bodies Back to Pakistan

The prime minister directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant institutions to take immediate steps to bring the bodies of the three Pakistani nationals back to Pakistan at the earliest possible time.

He instructed Pakistan’s diplomatic mission to remain in close contact with the Somali authorities and other relevant stakeholders and to facilitate the repatriation process.

Medical Care and Safe Return of Pakistani Crew

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for injured Pakistanis and to continue efforts for the safe return of other Pakistani crew members.

According to the information provided, five people were killed during an operation to recover the Honour 25 vessel, which had reportedly been held hostage in Somalia for approximately five months. Three of those killed were Pakistani nationals.
