PIA Broadens European Reach with Boeing 787 Dreamliner Aircraft Acquisition

KARACHI / ISLAMABAD:  In a major development for Pakistan’s aviation sector, PIA broadens European reach with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft acquisition as two state-of-the-art long-haul jets prepare to enter commercial service next month.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially finalized an agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways to acquire two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft under an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) lease setup.

A spokesman for the national flag carrier confirmed that the newly inducted aircraft will primarily operate on high-demand routes connecting Pakistan with the United Kingdom and continental Europe starting next month.

According to the PIA spokesperson, the acquisition reflects the new management’s firm commitment to modernizing fleet operations, enhancing passenger comfort, and offering world-class inflight amenities.

Marking the first time Boeing 787 Dreamliners are entering Pakistani commercial aviation, these fuel-efficient, quiet, and passenger-friendly wide-body aircraft will significantly bolster the airline’s long-haul passenger capacity and service frequencies.

Overall, this expansion highlights how PIA broadens European reach with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft acquisition.

Strategic Note: Privatization & Infrastructure Enhancement

Overhauling the National Carrier: Privatization & Infrastructure Upgrades Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is currently undergoing a transformative restructuring phase aimed at restoring financial viability and operational integrity.

Central to this strategy is the government’s active privatization program, designed to attract private capital, technical expertise, and modern management practices.

By transferring strategic equity and operational control to private investors, PIA aims to eliminate long-standing balance sheet deficits, optimize route profitability, and streamline institutional governance.

Alongside the privatization drive, comprehensive infrastructure enhancement remains a vital pillar of the airline’s revival strategy.

PIA is actively investing in upgrading airport ground-handling infrastructure, modernizing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, and digitally transforming its ticketing, logistics, and passenger-handling systems.

Cabin overhauls and fleet renewal programs—such as introducing modern, fuel-efficient wide-body aircraft—ensure that physical and digital assets align with international standards.
