PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Department has dismissed work-charge employees suspected of being fake appointments and ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the provincial housing authority.
Complaints had repeatedly emerged that more than Rs10 million was being disbursed every month in salaries in the names of allegedly fake work-charge employees at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority.
However, according to the complaints, neither the authority’s administration nor its finance section had verified documentary records of the employees’ recruitment, appointment letters or approval from the competent authority. Both sections were reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the appointments.
Following these concerns, Asif Rafiq Afridi, adviser on housing to the Advisory Council, and newly appointed Housing Secretary Tahir Orakzai took immediate action and directed that all work-charge employees be dismissed.
The authorities also decided to launch an inquiry to determine how the appointments were made, whether the employees were genuine and who was responsible for the alleged irregularities.
The action comes amid departmental measures against alleged corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures.
The inquiry is expected to examine the relevant recruitment and financial records to establish the facts behind the reported salary payments.
