Trump Dismisses Iran Talks as a ‘Waste of Time,’ Reaffirms Hardline Policy

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has dismissed negotiations with Iran as a “waste of time,” reiterating Washington’s firm stance against Tehran acquiring nuclear weapons while expressing confidence that the ongoing conflict could end soon.

Speaking at a rally, Trump defended his administration’s pressure campaign against Iran, claiming that US naval blockades had intensified economic pressure on Tehran. He also asserted that the United States maintained control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.

Trump expressed reservations about the ceasefire, saying he had not strongly supported the truce from the beginning. He also maintained that Iran, rather than the United States, was responsible for initiating the conflict.

Economic Pressure and Global Oil Markets

Discussing the economic consequences of the confrontation, Trump noted that oil prices had remained lower than expected despite escalating regional tensions. He attributed the relative stability in energy markets to his administration’s pressure strategy against Tehran.

Although Trump voiced optimism that the conflict would end in the near future, his remarks raised questions about the prospects for renewed diplomatic engagement and a negotiated settlement.

His comments underscore Washington’s continued emphasis on economic pressure and deterrence as it seeks to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. The future of negotiations, however, remains uncertain amid ongoing tensions between the two countries.
