Court Orders Arrest of Sohail Afridi in Radio Pakistan Attack Case

PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court has issued arrest warrants for Sohail Afridi and four other accused in the May 9 attack and arson case involving the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, ordering police to arrest them and produce them at the next hearing.

Special Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Wali Mohammad Khan heard the case, during which the public prosecutor submitted the police charge sheet. Advocate Ali Zaman appeared in court on behalf of the accused.

During the hearing, the defence lawyer sought an adjournment, saying he needed more time to prepare for the case.

The prosecution argued that the police charge sheet had been submitted and arrest warrants had been issued against the accused.

The court subsequently ordered that all five accused be arrested and presented at the next hearing before adjourning further proceedings.

According to the prosecution, protesters stormed the Radio Pakistan building on May 9, 2023, and set it on fire, causing damage to public and private property.

Following the incident, a case was registered against more than 80 people, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers and party workers.

The prosecution said the five accused, including Sohail Afridi, were subsequently nominated in the case following a request by Radio Pakistan.

The issuance of arrest warrants is part of the judicial proceedings, and the allegations against the accused have yet to be finally adjudicated by the court.
