Pakistan Kills 2,410 Terrorists in 5,143 Operations This Year

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces and law enforcement agencies conducted 5,143 operations against militants across the country between January 1 and September 29, killing 2,410, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told the National Assembly in a written response.

Naqvi said 806 suspected militants were wounded and 3,518 were arrested during the operations, which were carried out under the National Action Plan to combat terrorism.

However, he acknowledged shortcomings in efforts to curb extremist content online, according to the response submitted to parliament.

The Interior Ministry said there was no systematic or coordinated mechanism at the federal and provincial levels to address online threats. It added that intelligence agencies and open-source intelligence units lacked trained analysts and that security and intelligence agencies did not have round-the-clock monitoring capabilities.

More than 326,000 Afghan nationals’ identity cards cancelled

The ministry also informed the National Assembly that Pakistani identity cards issued to more than 326,000 Afghan nationals had been cancelled over the past five years.

The cancellations involved identity cards whose legal status was considered questionable, according to the ministry.

NACTA faces funding shortfall

The ministry said the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) had sought more than Rs2.98 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year but had received only Rs1.33 billion for the current year.

It described NACTA as a statutory body responsible for coordinating counterterrorism efforts but said the authority did not have powers to arrest suspects or directly enforce the law.

The government plans to transform NACTA into the National Counter Terrorism Division, the ministry added.
