Courageous Daughter Of Quetta Overcome Disability, Example For Women

QUETTA: Palwasha Shehzadi, a lawyer from Quetta who contracted polio at the age of four, has built a career in law despite paralysis affecting her left arm and foot. Now, she hopes to pass a competitive examination and become a magistrate.

Her journey reflects years of determination, continued education and family support. Having established herself as a High Court lawyer, she wants her experience to encourage other persons with disabilities, particularly women, to pursue their professional ambitions.

Palwasha developed polio when she was just four years old. Although the illness left her with lasting physical disabilities, she continued her education and eventually entered the legal profession.

Her achievement challenges assumptions about the careers available to people with disabilities. For Palwasha, physical limitations did not mean giving up her academic goals or abandoning her interest in law.

Her story also brings attention to the importance of opportunities that allow individuals to develop their abilities and participate fully in professional life.

According to Palwasha, some colleagues initially opposed her decision to pursue a legal career. Over time, however, those who questioned her choice came to acknowledge her capabilities and dedication.

She said her work and perseverance helped change their perceptions, allowing her to earn recognition within the profession.

That change represents an important part of her journey: moving beyond the doubts of others and demonstrating her abilities through sustained effort. Her experience offers encouragement to aspiring professionals who face discouragement because of disability.

Palwasha highlighted the role of her family, saying their support helped her continue working towards her goals.

She believes persons with disabilities can establish themselves in the legal profession and that encouragement from relatives can make a meaningful difference.

Her message places ability, determination and opportunity at the centre of the discussion. It also underlines how a supportive home environment can help someone pursue education and employment despite difficult circumstances.

The Next Goal: Becoming a Magistrate

With a legal career already underway, Palwasha is now aiming to pass a competitive examination and become a magistrate.

She hopes to serve the country through that role and bring recognition to her community.
