PESHAWAR: Inspections of educational institutions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have identified deteriorating school buildings in several districts following the deadly roof collapse at a private school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony.
In this regard, the authorities are examining schools mentioned through social media videos, while preliminary inspection reports have begun arriving from affected districts.
The inspections follow a tragedy in which 32 children and two female teachers reportedly died and more than 40 children were injured.
The education department said four of six classrooms at Badal Government School in Buner had been declared dilapidated. In Charsadda, inspections identified 15 deteriorating classrooms out of 20 across three government schools.
The buildings housing three government boys’ schools were declared unusable. Both classrooms at Bami Banda Government School in Karak were also found to be dilapidated.
In Mardan, four of 15 classrooms at two government schools were similarly identified.
All 25 classrooms across two government schools in Dera Ismail Khan were declared dilapidated, while buildings at three government girls’ schools in Haripur were reported to be entirely deteriorated.
The department described the findings as preliminary, with inspections continuing at schools brought to its attention.
The reported figures concern specific schools identified during this process and do not represent a complete assessment of educational buildings throughout the province.
