Director-General PDMA Saif Anwar Jappa has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert, particularly due to the risk of landslides in Murree, Galyat, and other hilly terrains.
In accordance with the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, district administrations and vital departments—including health, irrigation, communication and works, local government, and livestock—have been placed on standby.
Citizens have been urged to adopt precautionary measures, avoid dilapidated structures, stay away from power lines, and use the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of any emergency.
Winter Rains and Their Impact on Agriculture and Climate
Winter rainfall plays a critical role in shaping regional agricultural productivity and environmental health in Pakistan.
These seasonal showers serve as a natural irrigation lifeline for staple winter crops, most notably wheat, significantly boosting harvest yields across agricultural heartlands.
Furthermore, winter precipitation often acts as an effective atmospheric cleanser, helping to suppress heavy smog and particulate matter that frequently plagues urban centers during the colder months, thereby improving overall air quality.
However, unmanaged downpours can occasionally trigger localized urban flooding or disrupt transportation routes.

Consequently, pre-emptive disaster management planning and robust drainage maintenance remain vital to mitigating potential risks while maximizing the ecological and economic benefits of seasonal weather patterns.
