King Fahd International Airport Resumes Operations After Attack Kills Two in Dammam

RIYADH: King Fahd International Airport Resumes Operations in Dammam after an attack killed two people and injured eight others, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said on Thursday, adding that air traffic had returned to normal.

According to GACA, a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident were killed in the attack on the airport on Wednesday evening. The eight injured included nationals of Saudi Arabia, India, Yemen, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The authority said the injuries ranged from minor to severe and that the victims were receiving medical treatment at several hospitals. Efforts were also underway to assess damage to the airport and ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

The attack came amid a series of attempted drone and missile strikes targeting Saudi Arabia. Earlier on Wednesday, two workers were killed by falling debris from an intercepted drone at an oil facility in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.

Attempted attacks against Saudi Arabia continued on Thursday, with five drones intercepted and destroyed over the Riyadh and Madinah regions, according to the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen. Four additional drones were reportedly shot down over the Eastern Province earlier in the day.

The coalition also said that a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia towards Najran had been intercepted.

Saudi Arabia has faced repeated drone and missile attacks in recent weeks, with airports, energy infrastructure and civilian areas among the reported targets.

The ministry said two other people were injured by falling debris from an intercepted drone. The incident also sparked a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility’s perimeter, but oil field operations were not affected.

A Pakistani national and an Indian resident were also reported injured in the incident at the oil facility.
