PESHAWAR: Residents of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have urged the authorities to take immediate action against drug abuse, drug trafficking and illegal weapons following the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
Citizens expressed concern over the open use of drugs on roads and footpaths, calling for urgent measures to protect young people from substance abuse.
They demanded strict and indiscriminate action against drug dealers, smugglers and individuals possessing illegal weapons.
Residents of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat and Bannu also called on the newly formed councils to play an effective role in restoring lasting peace in the region.
According to residents, daily sit-ins, rallies and disruptions have ended following the imposition of governor’s rule, while business activities have resumed.
They said the improvement in the security situation had helped restore routine commercial activities and urged the government to turn its attention towards controlling inflation.
Citizens stressed that sustained action against drugs, illegal arms and other sources of insecurity was necessary to maintain peace and protect the region’s younger generation.
