PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has stepped up scrutiny of development projects undertaken during Sohail Afridi’s tenure as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, seeking detailed records of road construction, contracts and other government schemes, according to NAB sources.
The bureau has also sought asset records of former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and former provincial ministers Fazal Hakeem and Dr Amjad as part of a separate review of their assets, the sources said.
NAB has directed the Civil and Works Department to submit a comprehensive record of development projects carried out during Afridi’s tenure, including the number of roads constructed and details of contractors awarded projects.
The move puts development spending and contract awards during the period under closer scrutiny as the bureau seeks information from multiple government departments and institutions.
According to the sources, notices have been issued to the Civil and Works Department, Revenue Department, the registrar of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and other relevant institutions to provide the required records.
The bureau is examining details of development works to establish how projects were executed, which contractors received awards and whether the relevant documentation supports the spending, the sources said.
NAB is also reviewing the assets of Gandapur, Fazal Hakeem and Dr Amjad. Sources said notices for their appearance in connection with an inquiry could be issued after the bureau examines the asset records.
Separately, the bureau is tightening scrutiny of alleged irregular recruitment and corruption involving officials during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in the province, according to the sources.
The reported action signals a broader examination of development projects and administrative decisions linked to the previous provincial government. However, the requests for records and reported inquiries do not, by themselves, establish wrongdoing by Sohail Afridi or the other political leaders named.
