A Note on Military Operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan
Pakistan’s security apparatus, spearheaded by the military and intelligence agencies, has continuously adapted its counter-terrorism strategy across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan to address evolving security threats.
Rather than launching massive, disruptive conventional military operations that displace local populations, the focus has shifted heavily toward targeted, intelligence-based operations (IBOs).
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, these precise operations target high-value militants, dismantle local facilitation networks, and secure porous border regions, particularly against threats emanating from across the border.
Meanwhile, operations in Balochistan primarily focus on countering subversive elements and proxy groups attempting to sabotage vital socio-economic initiatives and infrastructure development projects.
Security forces work to protect local communities who are frequently targeted by hostile actors seeking to hinder education, employment, and regional integration.
