Note on Gold Prices in Pakistan over the Past Three Years
Over the past three years, gold prices in Pakistan have experienced extraordinary volatility, reflecting both international economic trends and sharp domestic macroeconomic shifts.
Between 2023 and 2026, the local gold market witnessed an unprecedented upward trajectory, driven primarily by severe local currency devaluation, historic inflationary pressures, and escalating geopolitical uncertainties worldwide.
In 2023, 24-karat gold crossed the psychological threshold of Rs 200,000 per tola for the first time as the Pakistani Rupee faced steep depreciation against the US dollar and domestic foreign exchange reserves came under severe pressure.
This prompt depreciation converted physical gold into the primary safe-haven asset for local investors and households looking to preserve their capital against rapid inflation.
The momentum accelerated sharply through 2024 and 2025, driven by global central bank purchases, international interest rate adjustments, and heightened conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
These international rallies pushed global bullion past historic highs, causing local Pakistani prices to breach the Rs 350,000 and eventually Rs 450,000 milestones per tola.
Although intermittent technical corrections and minor price drops, such as recent daily dips occur regularly due to short-term market adjustments, the three-year macro trend highlights a substantial net gain.

Ultimately, the trajectory demonstrates that domestic gold pricing in Pakistan remains heavily anchored to the interbank exchange rate of the Pakistani Rupee alongside international spot market movements, establishing gold as one of the most reliable hedges against currency risk in recent history.
