ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has assured citizens that Pakistan will maintain sufficient natural gas supplies throughout the peak winter months of December and January, mitigating concerns of a severe domestic shortage.
Government Assures Uninterrupted Winter Gas Supplies
Addressing a university convocation in Lahore, the petroleum minister highlighted that despite persistent international market volatilities and supply disruptions—largely driven by uncertainties surrounding the Strait of Hormuz—gas shipments from Qatar continue to arrive as planned.
“Qatar is supplying gas to Pakistan, and an ample supply will be maintained throughout December and January,” Malik stated, emphasizing that ongoing imports will secure the country’s energy needs during high-demand winter periods.
Navigating Global Market Volatility
Reviewing the past six months, the minister noted that Pakistan has successfully managed complex macroeconomic and global energy challenges. He stressed that even with fluctuating international petroleum prices and logistical disruptions impacting global energy chains, the federal government has ensured transparency in domestic fuel pricing.
Targeted Relief for Low-Income Groups
Highlighting welfare initiatives, Malik reiterated that the government remains committed to shielding vulnerable demographics from inflationary pressures. As part of these efforts, subsidized petroleum products are being distributed to low-income segments to offset the direct impacts of international market spikes.
The reassurance comes at a critical juncture when domestic and industrial energy demands traditionally surge across the country, making sustained imports vital to maintaining grid stability and continuous utility service.
