ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announces readiness of Model Islamabad jail. According to the details, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the construction of the new Islamabad Model Jail is complete, and prisoners currently held in Adiala Jail will soon be transferred to the capital’s new facility.
During his visit to Bhara Kahu and various areas of the city alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Interior Minister directed authorities to immediately retrieve 108 kanals of state land along the main road from encroachers.
He announced that three modern museums, including an army museum, will be established on the recovered land for citizens and visitors.
Addressing urban development and infrastructure, Mohsin Naqvi stated that comprehensive reconstruction and rehabilitation will be carried out in Islamabad’s older sectors, including G-6, G-7, G-9, and G-10, while anti-encroachment operations will continue across the city without discrimination.
To modernize civic utilities, the power transmission system in Islamabad is being completely undergrounded, and overhead poles and wires will be eliminated in collaboration with the power distribution companies.
Additionally, instructions were issued for the swift completion and opening of the Kashmir Chowk underpass to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
Significance and Features of the Islamabad Model Jail
The completion of the Islamabad Model Jail marks a major milestone in the federal capital’s administrative and judicial history.
Spanning approximately 90 acres in Sector H-16, this vital project had faced prolonged delays spanning over a decade before being prioritized and completed under the current government’s directives and the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) oversight.
The establishment of this modern facility is primarily aimed at relieving severe overcrowding at Rawalpindi’s Central Jail Adiala.
Previously, all undertrial and convicted prisoners from Islamabad had to be housed in Adiala Jail, creating logistical challenges, security risks, and transit hurdles during court appearances.
The new model jail accommodates over 2,000 inmates and features a well-equipped hospital, vocational training centers, educational facilities, and state-of-the-art security surveillance systems.
