Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across Punjab Starting October 28

ISLAMABAD: The PDM has issued rain alert across Punjab in the coming few days.

According to details, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory, predicting heavy rainfall across Punjab starting October 28, which is expected to bring a major change in weather patterns and a significant decrease in temperatures throughout the province.

According to senior meteorologists, a powerful new westerly wave is poised to enter the region, triggering gusty winds and severe thunder-lightning storms followed by substantial downpours.

The PMD’s forecast suggests that the upcoming precipitation will effectively dissipate the remaining heatwave effects, leading to a marked drop in mercury levels and bringing an autumn chill across most of the districts in Punjab.

This highly anticipated spell will introduce a much-needed seasonal transition, and with heavy rainfall predicted across Punjab starting October 28, residents and authorities are advised to prepare for a noticeable increase in the intensity of cold weather.

Regional administrations have been put on alert to handle potential urban flooding and manage agricultural concerns.

Note on the Significance of Seasonal Rainfall and Environmental Impacts

The transition from a warm to a cold season is a critical ecological event, and the first significant spell of rainfall in Punjab is vital for several environmental, agricultural, and public health reasons.

For agriculture, often the backbone of the province’s economy, this precipitation is crucial for sowing the Rabbi crops, especially wheat.

Proper rainfall provides the necessary soil moisture needed for germination and healthy growth, potentially reducing dependency on tube-well irrigation and conserving precious water resources.

Environmentally, late-autumn rains are paramount in mitigating the dangerous smog levels that have plagued Punjab, particularly Lahore, in recent years.

The falling water droplets act as natural scrubbers, washing down suspended particulate matter (PM2.5) and harmful pollutants from the atmosphere, thus improving air quality index (AQI) scores from ‘hazardous’ to ‘satisfactory’.

Public health is also directly impacted; while the initial rains can increase risk factors for seasonal influenza, they are also effective at reduction the dusty and dry conditions that exacerbate respiratory problems. Local governments must use this weather change to bolster public health advisories and environmental monitoring.

The expected showers serve as a crucial, natural reset button for both the ecosystem and urban management, ushering in a cleaner, colder, and agriculturally productive period for the province.
